DETAILS ABOUT STATIC IP ADDRESSES FROM MOUNTAIN
SKY SCHOOL
- Static IP addresses will be used for all the
enterprise servers (E-mail/DNS server, Application server, Library server)
and Administrative server logically segmented on MDF Switch on VLAN1;
these servers need to have static IP addresses as they must be available
all the time, especially Application server, and it makes no sense to use
DHCP for them as network traffic (broadcasts) would give us network delays
from computers and other servers looking for a certain server IP address.
- Static IP addresses will also be used for teachers and
administration computers; although these computers might use DHCP to
obtain their IP addresses, we use static IPs for security reasons.
Especially for administration computers, it is important to know where is
located a certain computer that connects to Administrative server. Also
teachers' computers should have static IPs to easily locate any one of
them
- Here's a detailed IP scheme for static addresses:

- For all the static IP addresses a class A 10.0.0.0 addressing is used,
subnetted into 6 usable subnets: 10.32.0.0, 10.64.0.0, 10.96.0.0,
10.128.0.0, 10.160.0.0 and 10.192.0.0. From these 6 subnetworks we will
use only 2 subnets: 10.32.0.0 and 10.64.0.0, subnet mask 255.224.0.0
(/11).
- Subnetwork 10.32.0.0 is used for enterprise and administrative servers,
while subnetwork 10.64.0.0 is used for teachers and staff computers
